New Overnight Stays Record

16.4 million overnight stays achieved in 2014. According to the registers from the Regional Tourism Board, Faro airport handled over 6 million passengers for the first time since the opening.

Since 2009 the register of overnight stays have been growing, making this the longest period of continuous growth in the Algarve history, in comparison, in 2013 there was a total of 14.7 million and in the year 2009 a total of 12.9 million overnight stays.

For this year the Regional Board expects more growth not only in the Algarve region but also in all Portugal. The largest group of foreign visitors to the Algarve in 2014, were the British with 5.1 million overnight stays, than the Germans with 1.5 million and the Dutch with 1.3 million.

The Algarve achieved an average occupancy of 57.2% over the 12 months.
